"Established in 1877, Evergreen Cemetery is the oldest secular cemetery still operating in Los Angeles and is the final resting place of many prominent Los Angeles citizens." This blog is to show the photographs I took there and to let more people know about this amazing LA site.

(I am providing this link as a courtesy. I had no map when I went there today and therefore, I will be going back to find a few markers I couldn't find.)
In Sacred Memory
This memorial is reverently placed here by the Japanese American Community under the auspices of the Southern California Burial and Memorial Committee in memory of American soldiers of Japanese Ancestry who fought, suffered, and died in World War II that liberty, justice, and equal opportunity in the pursuit of happiness might come to all democratic and peace-loving people everywhere regardless of race, creed, color or national origin. Dedicated: May 30, 1949
In Search of Eddie "Rochester" Anderson
I won't keep you in suspense. I did not have a map with me so I didn't find his grave marker; however, this is just one of many reasons I will go back again soon... 6/5/2011

Cameron E. Thom (June 20, 1825 – February 2, 1915) who came to California during the gold rush, was a lawyer, a Confederate officer in the Civil War, and the 16th Mayor of Los Angeles (1882–1884). http://en.wikipedia.org
Memorial Wall
Approximately 174 burial sites were discovered during the widening of First St due to the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension construction. After efforts to locate next-of-kin, and after appropriate documentation and historical research, the remains were respectfully reburied within Evergreen Cemetery next to the historic Chinese Shrine. (Information taken from Metro Site Dedication and Memorial Wall Unveiling Ceremony brochure dated March 8, 2010.)
Van Nuys (Isaac & Susanna)
Isaac Newton Van Nuys (November 20, 1836 – February 12, 1912) was an American businessman, real estate developer, banker, and agricultural entrepreneur. He founded the community of Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California in 1911. As a major figure in regional history and development, there are schools, streets, libraries, and a Liberty Ship with the name of Van Nuys. http://en.wikipedia.org/
I have no idea what this structure is but apparently it was used in several films: http://www.evergreen-losangeles.com/film.html

Inception of This Blog (6/5/2011)
This afternoon I am going to visit Evergreen Cemetery. I am going with my friend and my camera (yes, those are two different things). I hope to be able to bring you some wonderful pictures later. This cemetery might just be the thing which brings my love of photography and history together in this mixed up place called LA. And that doesn't even begin to mine the depths of my love-hate relationship with the entertainment industry.
